(The second dog, Rudy, a stray from TX, is great w everyone!)  For 18 months, we never traveled together except for long weekend getaways where we could take the dog. I didn’t trust anyone (a) w Zoë, or (b) in my house. But last week we had to travel across the country for a family wedding. I knew about TrustedHousesitters, and found Tom and Joan on there. They clearly had experience w dogs, and were able to set up a time to meet the dogs before I committed. I explained the protocol for her—don’t look at her, don’t approach her, don’t talk to her…let Zoë lead. I can’t tell you how many people I’ve said this to—friends, neighbors—who somehow think they are different, that they have some magical power. It never works. With Tom and Joan, it worked. They totally followed the protocol, and it worked!!!  Nonetheless, I was extremely nervous. I was worried that Zoë would be barky and growly and that Tom and Joan would get upset with her. Or that they wouldn’t even be able to get the leash on to take her out. Plus it’s just uncomfortable having strangers in your house.  Welp, ALL my worries were unfounded! T and J sent photos and pupdates, and it was clear that Zoë was doing just fine! When I got back from the trip, and was getting the lowdown, Tom actually sat on the floor and Zoë walked right up to him and licked him and let him pet her.  I’m writing all these details because I know that other dog parents who are as desperate and apprehensive as I was. And I want to reassure you that Tom and Joan love dogs and know how to work with anxious dogs. I am honestly planning to arrange future vacations around Tom and Joan’s schedule. 

 Less important: the house was in great shape upon our return, and the car was unscathed!
